Summer Show Exhibits Fine Art in the Sangres

The 2016 Summer Show with an Ice Cream Social Reception opened to a big crowd on Saturday, July 2. Eighty to 100 people attended the two-hour event.

Twenty-one artists displayed 51 pieces of original art, including oil, acrylic, photography, fiber, watercolor, ceramics, pastel, encaustic and sculpture. The Ice Cream Social served six varieties of fresh baked pies, all perfect with enough to have seconds. The pie was accompanied by velvety, maple-vanilla, home-churned ice cream. These refreshments were superb and, while you can visit the Summer Gallery Show from now until Aug. 13 – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Mondays – you really missed out if you didn’t make the social.

Congratulations to the winners. The work was of high quality and represents a diversity of talent and topics. Here are the winners.

Summer Show and Ice Cream Social July 2

The Sangres Art Guild invites the community to an old-fashioned ice cream social Saturday, July 2, to kick off the Guild’s Summer Show.

The juried show features original 2D, 3D and photographic works. Cash prizes will be awarded. The art show and sale runs from June 30 to Aug. 13.

The ice cream social reception are set for 4 to 6 p.m. at the eclectic 3rd Street Gallery, 59000 N. Highway 69, just off Main Street in downtown Westcliffe. Winners will be announced at the reception.

The 3rd Street Gallery’s hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Gallery volunteers’ artwork is featured in the upstairs gallery.


SAG Announces 2017 Calendar and Show

Artists and advertisers take note: Your chance to be part of the Sangres Art Guild’s 2017 Fine Art Calendar and show is coming up.

Our 2017 theme is “Secret Places.” The calendar and show are open to original 2D, 3D and photographic works from all artists, who may submit up to three works.

Sponsors of the calendar can choose full-, half- or one-third-banner ads, which appear below each month’s calendar grid and are tax deductible. All advertising artwork and payments are due by Feb. 28. Sponsors will also receive 12 copies of the calendar for a full banner ad, six for a half banner and four for a third. They may keep or sell them at the suggested retail price of $10 each.

Intake of framed artwork is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 5 at the 3rd Street Gallery in Westcliffe. Participating artists can enjoy refreshments from 3 to 4 p.m. that day and vote for the 13 works to be in the calendar.

In the event of inclement weather, intake and voting will be March 6, or March 12 if the weather remains bad through the scheduled weekend. Please check for updates.

An opening reception for the Calendar Show, which will hang through June 4, is set for May 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the 3rd Street Gallery.

Violinist Duo to Perform Benefit for SAG August 5

On Tuesday, August 5 at 7:00 pm at the 3rd Street Gallery, the mother and daughter pair of classical violinists, Heidi Itashiki and her daughter, Chloe Trevor, will present a 45-minute program to benefit the Sangres Art Guild.

The program, which they performed last year in Durango’s Purgatory resort, includes: Bach: Partita in E Major, O’Connor: Appalachia Waltz, Wieniawski: Caprice in A Minor, Kreisler: Recitativo and Scherzo, Irish fiddle tunes, and Gardel: Tango Por Una Cabeza.

Chloé was introduced to the violin at age 2 by her mother, Heidi Trevor Itashiki, Dallas Symphony violinist. She later studied with Arkady Fomin, Dallas Symphony violinist and Artistic Director of the New Conservatory of Dallas. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with David and Linda Cerone, and her graduate degree as a scholarship student at Rice University studying with Kenneth Goldsmith. Chloé plays on a Carlos Landolfi violin made in Italy in 1771, and is on faculty at the Music in the Mountains Conservatory. Watch a performance on line:

Calendar Show Reception June 2

Our annual Fine Art Calendar competition really kicks off the summer! Make sure to attend the gala Artists’ Reception on June 2, 2012 from 4-7 pm at the 3rd Street Gallery.

Twelve magnificent pieces of art were chosen to fill the pages of our 2013 calendar. Dozens of other great pieces will be on display. All artwork will be for sale. Hors d’ouevres and drinks will be served. Door prizes will be given. Its a great social time.

A portion of sales benefit the Sangres Art Guild and all of the great work the Guild does to bring business to the community. Join in the fun and cast your vote for the Peoples Choice awards!  The Juror’s Choice and Peoples Choice will be announced at the Artists’ Reception and awarded during the reception.
