SAG’s 13th Annual Arts Hullabaloo returns with exciting new events and returning old favorites, all guaranteed to share the fun of creativity in kids of all ages. Participants will spend fun-filled, awe-inspiring, event-packed days filled with warm memories of our Valley.
Hullabaloo’s popular Saturday in the Park returns with favorites like vendor’s showcasing various Arts & Crafts, Kids’ Face Painting, Quick Draw Competition with Models, Kids Paint Too, Roving Musicians, Dance, Fun Food and Drinks. Here are just a few new 2019 Hullabaloo highlights.
NEW! Chris Carlson PROFESSIONAL CHALK STREET ARTIST, DENVER

Chris will begin first thing Friday morning to create an 8′ by 15′ original chalk art masterpiece right in the middle of town. Chris will also judge our kid and grown up Chalk Street Art Contests. For more information on Chris Carlson, check out his website at www.ChrisCarlsonArt.com.
NEW! Paul Glasspoole COLORADO STUNT KITE FLIER

Paul and fellow Mile Hi Kite Club members will join Hullabaloo this year. Don’t miss their demos as they fill the sky over the Bluff with excitement. Afterward, Hullabaloo kids and grown-ups will fly their own hand-decorated kites, competing in numerous events.

Spend a glorious day on the Bluff with Paul and his Stunt Kite Fliers, Hand Decorated Kite Competitions, Strolling Musicians, Various Family Games as well as Dark Skies Viewing & more! A Great Day for Family Fun!

Friday, September 27, 2019
- 9am-5pm. Day one of 3D Chalk Art Demonstration by Denver professional chalk artist Chris Carlson at the corner of 2nd St. and Main St.
- Adults come create their own chalk art masterpieces. Pick up entry forms and chalk at Greenstone Artworks. Cash prizes will be announced at 1pm Sunday on The Bluff.
- Visit local art galleries, gift shops and restaurants in town.
- Watch the talented Alla Prima Westcliffe artists at work throughout the town and all over the valley.
- 4-6pm. Alla Prima Westcliffe plein air contest opening reception and awards ceremony at 3rd Street Gallery. All are welcome to come to the gallery to enjoy great art, good company, a live Dixieland Band and refreshments. Enter the “Drawing for a Drawing” – put your name in the hat for an opportunity to win an original charcoal drawing by award-winning local artist Curt Gillespie.
- 5pm-ish. Alla Prima Westcliffe awards presentation to be made by judge Cheryl St. John.
- 6-7pm. “Circus in Space” by the Salida Circus at the Jones Theater. 60-minute interactive children’s circus show by Joan and Jenny Lobeck of the Salida Circus at the Jones Theater.
- 7:30pm. View Disney’s recent film “The Lion King” at the Jones Theater.

Art in the Park – 9am-4pm – Jess Price Park in Town
APW artists and local vendors showcasing their own Art. Handmade Arts and Crafts • Kids Face Painting • Portrait Drawing • Musicians ‘Blooming Bush Women’, and others • Kids Paint too • Art Demonstrations • Sword Dance Performance • And more!
- 9am-12noon. Watch the Quick Draw competition with Alla Prima Westcliffe artists painting in the park, competing for the People’s Choice awards. Come vote for your favorites at noon!
- 9-10am. Tots Tumbling workshop with Joan and Jenny Lobeck of the Salida Circus.
- 9am-5pm. Day two of the Chalk Art Demonstration by Chris Carlson at the corner of 2nd and Main. Adults come create their own Chalk Art masterpieces. Pick up entry forms and chalk at Greenstone Artworks 10am-2pm.
- 10am-12noon. Kids decorate their own ready made kites. (Adults too!)
- 10am-3:30pm. Kids create their own sidewalk art for the Chalk Art Drawing Competition. Pickup up forms and chalk at Greenstone Artworks. Cash prizes announced Sunday at 1pm on The Bluff.
- 3:30pm. Kids and Adults Chalk Art Forms to be turned in at Greenstone Artworks!
- 5pm. Chris will judge the kids and adult Chalk Art Drawing Competition entries. Cash prizes will be announced Sunday at 1pm on the Bluff.

On the Bluff
- 11:30am-4pm. Watch Kite Flying Demo on The Bluff by Denver Professional Stunt Flier, Paul Glasspoole of the Mile High Kite Club.
- Awards announced for Hand-Decorated Kites – Kids and Adults.
- Learn how to Fly a Kite – help throughout the day.
- Kite Flying Competition (does not have to be hand decorated for this competition – bring your own kite).
- 1pm. Kids and Adults Chalk Art Competition Awards Announced – Cash Prizes!
- 2pm. View Disney’s recent film “The Lion King” at the Jones Theater.
- 2-3pm. “Salida Circus Extravaganza” for kids featuring aerial, acrobatics and juggling.
- 3:15-5pm. Salida Circus Workshops for kids in clowning, diabolo, aerial and juggling.
- Throughout the Day – the Dark Skies Observatory will be open – view through their telescope with a special filter • Learn about the Observatory.
- PICNIC on the Bluff – Bring your own sack lunch or pick up ready-made sandwiches and goodies at various restaurants and stores in town!
Artists and Vendors for Jess Price Park
Enjoy sales of your artwork or fine craft in Jess Price Park during Arts Hullabaloo on Saturday, September 28th. For a small fee, artists/vendors can set up a 10’x10′ booth and sell their artwork or fine craft without commissions. All sales and sales taxes are the responsibility of the exhibitor. More info can be found in the Arts Hullabaloo Vendor Application.
